How to maintain healthy hair this summer

In the summer we tend to shower more and exfoliate our skin more often, but what about our hair? Mounting fresh, healthy hair can become tricky if you don’t have a hair care routine.

If you are eager to achieve healthy hair this summer, look no further. Here are four tried and tested steps to maintain fresh hair all summer long.

Step 1. Get into a consistent shampoo schedule

Most men struggle with keeping their hair moisturised and healthy for two major reasons: either they overly wash their hair during the week because they are sweating so much (overly washing it dries the hair out and strips it off its natural oils). Or, they overly expose their hair to the sun, which burns the hair and leaves it brittle and dry.

The hair needs those natural oils that our body produces and when you shampoo consistently you stripe the oils right out. When you put your hair on a schedule, it adjusts to those changes and adapts accordingly.

Tip: Try to shampoo your hair not so often. 2-3 times a week is more than enough for your hair to get exactly what it needs and not strip away its natural oils.

Step 2. Co-wash between shampoos

Co-washing is when you wash your hair with conditioners only. This process helps with putting the natural oils back into your hair.

Tip: In the summer, this is a great process to add to your routine and it will help keep your hair fresh and healthy between washes.

Opt for co-washing your hair once a week to leave your hair shining and smelling good.

Step 3. Apply water and oil every morning

When you think about it, your hair is like a plant in a lot of ways. It needs to be watered and maintained to grow full and healthy. If you suffer with dry hair, apply a dime-sized amount of oil on your hair in the morning to help keep it moisturised.

Tip: Take a spray bottle of water and lightly spray your hair, getting a nice, even coverage and then apply the oil. We recommend vitamin E oil, almond oil or coconut oil.

This process is simple and inexpensive to do. It will help to keep your hair moisturised and will stop the heat from drying it out.

Remember: moisturised hair is healthy hair.

Step 4. Make frequent trips to the barber

There are so many reasons why visiting your barber on a consistent and routine basis is important. But the main reason why it applies here is to avoid split ends.

Tip: Having split ends is natural and happens while your hair is growing, but not getting rid of the split ends is harmful to your healthy hair and can stunt its growth. Maintaining your hair with a routine trim and shape up will help your hair grow full.
